Engineered for Wet Grinding: Superior Wear Resistance, High Toughness & Cost-Efficiency
The Cell Lab ZTA-W Zirconia Toughened Alumina Sintered Beads & Balls are developed especially for wet grinding in high-demand ceramic, mining, and fine materials applications. With ~90 wt% Al₂O₃ matrix toughened by zirconia/hafnia, these media offer extremely low wear, high hardness, and excellent mechanical stability in challenging milling environments. Available in sizes from 2.0 mm up to 50 mm, delivered in 25 kg packs, they are ideal for ball mills, stirred mills and other high throughput wet grinding systems.
Exceptional wear resistance – 4-30× lower wear rate than standard high-alumina (90-92 % Al₂O₃) grinding media under wet grinding conditions.
High hardness & zero porosity – Typical hardness ~1230 HV, hardwoodish behaviour, and no measurable porosity; resists surface degradation and maintains sharpness over long runs.
Wide size range (2-50 mm) and size tolerance – Covers from small beads to large balls; exact tolerances (± ~1.5-2 mm for large sizes) give flexibility for different mill types and grinding loads.
Density comparable to high-alumina media – Density around 3.65 g/cm³ and bulk density ~2.3 kg/L, enabling substitution without sacrificing grinding force and contact energy.
High performance-price ratio – Less frequent media replacement, reduced downtime, lower operational costs per ton of material processed.

These ZTA-W media are optimized for wet grinding and milling in:
Ceramics & glazes, zircon body grinding
Mining & mineral processing: refining gold, silver, platinum, lead, copper, zinc sulphide ores
High throughput wet mills: stirred / agitated media mills, conventional ball mills
Fine & ultrafine grinding of high-hardness materials
Coatings, pigments, heavy slurries, ceramic raw materials
Q1: What makes ZTA-W better than standard high-alumina media for wet grinding?
A: ZTA-W offers 4-30× better wear resistance, high hardness, zero porosity, and comparable density to high-alumina beads, so you get much longer life, fewer replacements, less contamination, and more economic grinding.
Q2: Which bead / ball size should I choose for my mill and material?
A: Smaller beads (2-8.5 mm) are good for fine or ultrafine grinding, high contact frequency, and light loads; larger balls (9-50 mm) better for coarse grinding, heavy loads, large media fill volumes. Match bead size to mill type and material hardness.
Q3: Are these ZTA-W beads suitable for both mineral ores and ceramics?
A: Yes. They are explicitly proven for both: ceramic bodies, glazes, zircon, and metals/minerals like gold, silver, platinum, copper, etc. The toughness + chemical composition make them versatile.
Q4: Can they be used in vertical / stirred media mills and high RPM wet mills?
A: Absolutely. Their mechanical integrity, density, and wear resistance allow stable performance in both high RPM wet mills and slower mills like ball mills.
Q5: What are common search terms / keywords people use for this type of media?
A: Some high-value keywords include: “ZTA wet grinding media”, “zirconia toughened alumina beads”, “high hardness alumina zirconia beads”, “low wear alumina grinding balls”, “minerals milling media high alumina”, “wet milling beads 90% alumina”, “fine grinding media ZTA”, “ceramic beads for wet grinding”, etc.
