Cell Lab Yttria-Stabilised Zirconia (YSZ) Milling Media Balls [5–40 mm, High-Purity Grinding Balls]

High Density, Exceptional Wear Resistance & Efficient High-Energy Milling

The Cell Lab Yttria-Stabilised Zirconia (YSZ) Milling Media Balls are engineered for laboratory, pilot-scale and production-scale grinding applications requiring maximum milling efficiency and minimal contamination. Manufactured from high-purity yttria-stabilised zirconia, these grinding balls offer outstanding density, fracture toughness, wear resistance and chemical stability.

Available in sizes from 5 mm to 40 mm, these zirconia milling balls are ideal for planetary ball mills, roller mills, stirred mills and high-energy grinding systems used in battery materials, advanced ceramics, pharmaceuticals, pigments, minerals and nanomaterials processing.

Their superior mechanical strength and highly uniform spherical geometry ensure efficient energy transfer, rapid particle size reduction and long operational life compared with alumina, glass and other conventional grinding media.

Key Features

  • High purity & chemical stability – Manufactured from premium yttria-stabilised zirconia for ultra-low contamination and excellent chemical resistance.
  • Outstanding wear resistance – Significantly lower wear rates than conventional ceramic grinding media, resulting in longer service life and cleaner milling results.
  • High density & fracture toughness – Maximises impact energy transfer and grinding efficiency for faster particle size reduction.
  • Excellent mechanical strength – Resistant to cracking, chipping and deformation under high-energy milling conditions.
  • Wide range of ball sizes – Available from 5 mm to 40 mm to support both fine grinding and coarse particle reduction applications.

FAQ

Q1: How do I select the appropriate ball size?

A: Smaller balls (5–10 mm) are generally used for fine grinding and particle refinement. Medium sizes (12–20 mm) offer balanced grinding efficiency, while larger balls (25–40 mm) provide higher impact energy for coarse particle reduction.

Q2: Why choose YSZ grinding balls over alumina balls?

A: YSZ grinding balls offer higher density, greater fracture toughness, lower wear rates and longer service life, resulting in improved milling efficiency and reduced contamination.

Q3: Are these suitable for high-energy planetary ball mills?

A: Yes. Their high density and excellent mechanical strength make them ideal for planetary mills, roller mills and other high-energy grinding systems.

Q4: Can these grinding balls be used with zirconia jars?

A: Yes. Using zirconia grinding balls with zirconia milling jars is recommended to minimise cross-contamination during milling.

Q5: What is the expected service life?

A: Under normal operating conditions, YSZ grinding balls typically last significantly longer than alumina, glass or standard ceramic grinding media due to their superior wear resistance.
