High-density zirconia jars for laboratory and pilot-scale milling
The Cell Lab Yttria-Stabilised Zirconia (YSZ) Milling Jars are precision-engineered for high-energy planetary and rotary milling.
Featuring exceptional hardness, toughness, and chemical stability, these jars provide superior milling efficiency with minimal contamination—ideal for ceramics, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, electronics, and materials R&D.
Thanks to their high specific gravity (≈ 6.06 g/cm³) and polished interior surfaces, YSZ jars enable powerful particle size reduction for abrasive and fibrous materials.
They resist acids and organic solvents, ensuring reliable performance and easy cleaning.
Larger capacities (≥ 2.5 L) include a stainless-steel sleeve and carrying handle, providing safe handling and optional roller-mill conversion for extended versatility.
Exceptional durability – YSZ material offers ultra-low wear, long lifespan, and minimal contamination during grinding.
High milling efficiency – high density enables effective crushing of tough or fibrous materials in short cycles.
Chemical and thermal resistance – withstands acids, solvents, and temperatures up to 320 °C.
Versatile compatibility – fits planetary ball mills (≥ 0.4 L); sleeve options allow roller-mill adaptation.
Complete jar sets – supplied with jar, lid, and rubber sealing gasket (milling media sold separately).

Cell Lab YSZ milling jars are ideal for:
Battery and solid-state materials – fine milling of oxides, electrolytes, and electrode powders.
Ceramics and advanced materials – preparation of ultra-pure powders and composite dispersions.
Pharmaceutical and chemical research – contamination-free homogenisation and particle refinement.
Pigment and catalyst development – uniform particle distribution for consistent reactivity.
Metallurgy and nanomaterials – mechanical alloying and size reduction of high-hardness compounds.
Q1: Why use YSZ instead of alumina or stainless steel jars?
A: YSZ provides higher hardness, density, and chemical inertness—ideal for high-purity or abrasive materials where minimal contamination is essential.
Q2: Can these jars be used for both wet and dry milling?
A: Yes. They are compatible with both wet and dry milling modes, depending on the sample and media type.
Q3: Do larger jars require sleeves?
A: Yes. Models ≥ 2.5 L include stainless-steel sleeves and handles for enhanced strength and safe handling.
Q4: What grinding media should be used?
A: YSZ or zirconia balls are recommended to maintain purity and maximise grinding efficiency.
Q5: How to clean and maintain YSZ jars?
A: Rinse with ethanol or deionised water; avoid metal brushes or hard impacts to prevent surface micro-cracks.
