Cell Lab Tungsten Carbide (WC-Co) Planetary Mill Jar Milling Media Sets [50 ml – 1500 ml]

High-density tungsten carbide milling media sets for planetary ball mills and roller mills—ideal for hard, abrasive samples, nanopowder synthesis, and high-energy mechanochemical grinding. Each set is pre-balanced for efficient impact and shear, available in polished (high-gloss, low friction) or unpolished (matte/satellite band) finishes to match different breakage and mixing behaviors.

Key Features

  • WC-Co high density (≈ 14.95 g/cm³) for maximum impact energy and throughput.

  • Polished & Unpolished finishes to tune sliding vs. biting action in the jar.

  • Pre-mixed ball sizes (3/5/10/15 mm as specified) optimized for planetary milling.

  • Excellent wear & chemical stability against acids/alkalis; oxidation-resistant.

  • Clean packaging, no oils, ready for battery materials, ceramics, and metals R&D.

General Specifications (All Variants)

  • Main material: WC-Co (tungsten carbide with cobalt binder)

  • Density: 14.95 g/cm³

  • Shape: Spherical (some unpolished lots include satellite band)

  • Hardness: > 90 HRA

  • Finish options: Polished / Unpolished

  • Suitable samples: hard, brittle, abrasive materials

  • Recommended jars: Tungsten carbide jars

  • For research use only (RUO).

Elemental Analysis (All WC-Co Media)

  • WC (tungsten carbide): 94 wt %

  • Co (cobalt binder): 6 wt %

Use Notes

  • Choose Polished when you want lower friction and cleaner surfaces; choose Unpolished (matte/satellite) when you need stronger bite and enhanced mixing/agitation.

  • Fill-level guideline: keep total ball + powder load at ≤ 2⁄3 jar volume; for high-speed planetary milling, do intermittent stops to allow cooling and protect powder phases and binder integrity.

FAQ

Q1. How do I choose between Polished vs Unpolished?
Polished offers lower surface friction and reduced metal contamination; Unpolished with micro-texture or satellite bands gives sharper initial breakage, especially for hard agglomerates.

Q2. Can I mill with water or polar solvents?
Yes. WC-Co is stable in most common acids, alkalis, and solvents. In strongly acidic or oxidizing systems, use polished finish and limit exposure time.

Q3. Can I adjust the ball size mix ratio?
Yes. The standard set mixes (3 mm / 5 mm / 10 mm / 15 mm) are for general use. You can shift proportions toward finer or coarser sizes depending on desired particle size distribution.

Q4. What are the advantages over zirconia or stainless steel media?
Higher density (~14.95 g/cm³) yields greater energy per impact, so better for hard or brittle materials. Also, WC-Co tends to wear slower under harsh abrasion conditions.
