Large-format alloy steel die sets with reinforced splice structure for high-pressure pellet pressing
Cell Lab Square Dry Pellet Pressing Die Sets with Splice Structure are designed for compressing powders into large square or rectangular pellets. Manufactured from Cr12MoV alloy tool steel (equivalent to AISI D2), hardened to HRC60–62, these die sets combine wear resistance, strength, and precision engineering.
The splice structure design significantly increases the maximum pressure the die can withstand, making it especially suitable for large-format samples (≥80 mm) where conventional single-block dies are prone to cracking or deformation. With cavity depths of 65 mm, these dies are ideal for preparing thick or oversized pellets used in ceramics, metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, energy materials, and advanced research applications.
Splice structure reinforcement — Extends pressure tolerance for large sample pressing.
Large sample capability — Available in 100×100 mm and 200×200 mm formats.
High-strength alloy steel — Cr12MoV tool steel (AISI D2 equivalent), hardened to HRC60–62.
Versatile applications — Suitable for ceramics, metallic powders, minerals, and composite materials.
Customisable design — Alternative square and rectangular sizes available on request.
| Product No. | Reference Sample Size | Cavity Depth (mm) | Die Material | Indenter Hardness | Dimensions (mm) | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CL0687 | 100 × 100 mm | 65 | Cr12MoV Alloy Steel | HRC60–62 | 160 × 110 | 21 kg |
| CL0688 | 200 × 200 mm | 65 | Cr12MoV Alloy Steel | HRC60–62 | 260 × 120 | 44 kg |
Ceramics & composites — Large-scale ceramic or composite pellet formation.
Powder metallurgy — Compression of large metallic powder samples for mechanical testing.
Minerals & geology — Preparation of oversized analytical pellets.
Pharmaceuticals — Square-shaped pellets for formulation studies and uniformity testing.
Energy materials — Pressing of large electrode or solid-state electrolyte samples.
Q1: What is the benefit of the splice structure?
It reinforces the die set, allowing it to withstand higher pressures without cracking, which is crucial for samples larger than 80 mm.
Q2: What materials can be pressed with these die sets?
Ceramics, metallic powders, minerals, composites, and pharmaceutical powders.
Q3: Why choose square pellets over cylindrical ones?
Square and rectangular geometries provide larger flat surfaces, which are advantageous for certain mechanical and thermal tests.
Q4: Can the die dimensions be customised?
Yes. Cell Lab offers tailor-made designs, including alternative square and rectangular sizes.
Q5: Are these die sets consumables?
Yes. They are consumables, with warranty covering only manufacturing defects; wear and rust are not covered.
