High-conductivity carbon material for advanced sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries
The Cell Lab Soft Carbon Powder is a high-performance anode material designed for next-generation sodium-ion and lithium-ion battery systems. With exceptional electrical conductivity, high surface activity, and mechanical flexibility, it facilitates efficient electron transfer and stable long-term cycling performance.
Its well-controlled particle size distribution and porous microstructure enable fast ion diffusion and improved charge storage capability. Combining cost-efficient production with versatile electrochemical behaviour, this soft carbon powder is ideal for R&D laboratories and pilot-scale energy-storage projects seeking scalable and sustainable anode solutions.
High Electrical Conductivity – Ensures rapid electron transport and reduced internal resistance in battery electrodes.
Excellent Cycling Stability – Retains capacity and structure over extended charge–discharge cycles.
Enhanced Surface Area – Increases ion-exchange efficiency and specific capacity for higher energy density.
Cost-Effective Production – Provides a competitive alternative to hard carbon or graphite materials for mass manufacture.
Mechanical Flexibility – Absorbs volume change and stress during sodium/lithium intercalation, preventing electrode fracture.

Q1: How does soft carbon compare with hard carbon as an anode material?
A1: Soft carbon provides higher electrical conductivity and better structural flexibility, though with slightly lower specific capacity than hard carbon.
Q2: Is this powder suitable for coin-cell and pouch-cell fabrication?
A2: Yes. Its particle size and flowability are optimised for slurry mixing and uniform coating in both formats.
Q3: Can it be used with sodium-ion electrolytes?
A3: Absolutely. It exhibits excellent electrochemical compatibility with NaPF₆-based and other sodium electrolyte systems.
Q4: Does it require any pre-treatment before use?
A4: Drying at 80–100 °C under vacuum is recommended to remove residual moisture before slurry preparation.
Q5: What binder systems are compatible?
A5: PVDF, CMC/SBR and water-based binders are all suitable for this material in standard anode formulations.
