Cell Lab Porous Aluminium Foam [High Porosity, Lightweight Structure] – Open-Cell Metal Foam for Energy, Thermal and Acoustic Applications

Lightweight, high-surface-area aluminium foam for battery, catalysis and heat-management systems

The Cell Lab Porous Aluminium Foam is a high-performance, open-cell metallic material that combines low weight, mechanical strength, and high porosity. Engineered for demanding energy and industrial applications, this foam provides an exceptionally large specific surface area for heat exchange, catalysis, and noise reduction.

In battery and electrochemical systems, its high conductivity and open structure improve heat dissipation, cycle stability, and capacity retention, making it ideal for lithium-ion and metal–air cell research. Beyond the lab, it is widely applied in thermal management, acoustic insulation, aerospace structures, and lightweight composites.

Key Features

High Porosity and Surface Area
Porosity of 68–78 % and pore size of 1.6 mm enable excellent gas and electrolyte permeability.

Lightweight yet Structurally Rigid
Density of only 0.6–0.85 g/cm³ ensures high stiffness and strength-to-weight performance.

Enhanced Battery Functionality
Improves electrode stability, heat control, and current distribution in energy storage devices.

Versatile Industrial Utility
Applicable to catalysis, sound absorption, heat exchangers, and structural damping systems.

Customisable Geometry
Standard sheet size 300 mm × 200 mm × 4 mm; other sizes available upon request for tailored research setups.

FAQ

Q1: What are the main advantages of using aluminium foam over copper or nickel foams?
Aluminium foam offers lower density and cost, with excellent thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance for non-alkaline systems.

Q2: Can this foam be used as an electrode substrate?
Yes. Its open-cell network enables uniform coating of active materials and excellent current distribution.

Q3: How can the foam surface be modified?
It can be oxidised, coated, or plasma-treated to enhance adhesion or catalytic functionality.

Q4: What is the recommended cleaning procedure before coating?
Rinse gently with diluted acid (e.g., 5 % HCl) to remove surface oxides, then dry under inert gas.

Q5: Can Cell Lab provide different pore sizes or thicknesses?
Yes. Customised pore density, thickness, and dimensions are available for research or pilot-scale needs.
