Wear-resistant, high-density polishing balls for precision metal powder refining & hard material milling
Cell Lab’s polished tungsten carbide (WC-Co) media balls are engineered for high hardness, excellent wear resistance, and chemical stability against acid and alkali environments. These wear-resistant milling balls are ideal for planetary ball milling, metal powder refining, ceramic grinding, electronics, paints, inks, battery materials R&D, mining, and chemical engineering where particle size uniformity and minimal contamination are essential.
High hardness (> 90 HRA) & polished WC-Co balls — reduces wear and delivers consistent performance.
High density (14.95 g/cm³) milling media balls for strong impact and faster size reduction.
Excellent abrasion & wear resistance, acid/alkali and oxidation stable—longer lifespan in harsh milling of hard materials.
Broad size options within 3–20 mm range in 1 kg packs—supports mixing for both coarse and fine grinding phases.
Ideal for planetary ball milling, metal powder refining, ceramics, pigments, geology, and battery material formulations.

| Diameter (mm) | Product SKU (1 kg) | Approx. Count / Balls per kg | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 mm | CL0476 | ~ 4,735 balls | Very fine grinding, high count for uniformity |
| 4 mm | CL0477 | ~ 2,000 balls | Balanced size; common for medium-fine milling |
| 5 mm | CL0478 | ~ 1,023 balls | Mix/coarse tasks; good for faster throughput |
| 8 mm | CL0479 | ~ 250 balls | Larger impacts; good for coarse reduction or pre-grind |
| 10 mm | CL0480 | ~ 128 balls | Coarser media; fewer balls per kg; higher impact per ball |
| 12 mm | CL0481 | ~ 74 balls | Coarse; heavy impact; use carefully to avoid overheating |
| 15 mm | CL0482 | ~ 38 balls | Very coarse reduction; effective for chunky feed or pre-crushed material |
| 20 mm | CL0483 | ~ 16 balls | Maximum impact size; lowest count; high energy per collision |
Q1: Can I mix different diameters in one 1 kg pack?
A: Yes. Mixing sizes (e.g., 3 mm + 5 mm + 10 mm) helps you achieve both coarse and fine grinding, improving overall efficiency and particle size uniformity.
Q2: What jar material is best for these WC-Co balls?
A: Use tungsten carbide jars to prevent wear and cross-contamination. Softer jars (such as stainless steel or alumina) may degrade quickly under heavy milling.
Q3: Are these balls heat sensitive?
A: WC-Co balls are thermally stable, but larger diameters (12–20 mm) can generate significant heat per impact. Ensure proper cooling and avoid excessively long milling durations.
Q4: How can I tell when the media needs replacing?
A: Watch for visible chipping, reduced diameter, increased surface roughness, or contamination in your milled product. When performance drops, it’s time to replace the media.
Q5: Does a polished finish make a difference?
A: Yes. Polished spherical balls minimise friction and surface irregularities, enhancing motion efficiency and extending both jar and media life.
Q6: Will cobalt leach out from WC-Co?
A: Cobalt serves as a binder in WC-Co. For ultra-low contamination applications, test your final product, control acidic environments, and avoid excessively long milling times.
