Cell Lab Polished Tungsten Carbide Spherical Milling Media Balls [1 kg Spec Only]

High-density, wear-resistant WC-Co grinding media for precision metal powder refining & planetary ball milling

Cell Lab polished tungsten carbide grinding media balls (WC-Co) in 1 kg packs deliver consistent performance for tough milling tasks. With high hardness, excellent abrasion resistance, and chemical stability, these media are ideal for demanding R&D in metallurgy, ceramics, electronics, pigments, battery materials and more. Use with compatible tungsten carbide jars to maintain purity and efficiency.

Key Features

  • High hardness polished surface (~92.1 HRA) to reduce wear in both media and jar

  • High density (14.95 g/cm³) for strong impact energy—suitable for hard, abrasive materials

  • Acid/alkali resistant and oxidation resistant surface treatment for chemical stability

  • Broad diameter options in 1 kg packs — supports both fine and coarse grinding

General Specifications (1 kg variants only)

  • Main material: WC-Co (tungsten carbide–cobalt)

  • Density: 14.95 g/cm³

  • Surface finish: polished

  • Shape: spherical

  • Hardness: 92.1 HRA

  • Compatible samples: hard, abrasive materials

  • Compatible grinding jar: tungsten carbide jars

  • Ordering unit: 1 kg pack

Variant Specifications (1 kg packs only)

Diameter (mm) Product No. (1 kg) Notes
1.6 mm CL0466 High count per kg; fine detail work & polishing
1 mm CL0467 Very fine grinding; ideal for particle size reduction and homogenisation
2 mm CL0468 Balanced between reactivity and milling speed
3 mm CL0469 Good for general R&D milling, medium hardness samples
4 mm CL0470 Larger impacts; useful for faster coarse reductions
5 mm CL0471 Mixed grinding or batch where coarse & fine needed
6 mm CL0472 Coarse milling, high removal rate
10 mm CL0473 Fast breaking of larger chunks
15 mm CL0474 Very coarse size reduction or pre-grinding steps
20 mm CL0475 Maximum impact; use with caution (power and heat)

FAQ

Q1: What ball diameter is best for fine powder work?
A: Use 1 mm or 1.6 mm diameters within a 1 kg pack. These smaller sizes provide finer control and promote uniform particle size reduction during milling.

Q2: Is heat generation a concern with large diameter media?
A: Yes. Larger balls (10–20 mm) produce greater impact energy and heat. Ensure proper cooling, shorten milling duration, and monitor temperature to prevent material degradation.

Q3: Can I mix diameters within 1 kg?
A: Yes. Combining sizes (e.g., 1 mm + 5 mm + 10 mm) balances grinding efficiency and fineness. The ideal ratio depends on your sample’s hardness and milling objectives.

Q4: How do I ensure jar compatibility?
A: Use tungsten carbide jars when working with WC-Co balls. Mixing with softer jar materials can cause premature wear or introduce contamination into your sample.

Q5: When should I replace media?
A: Replace the balls when you observe chipping, surface pitting, or a noticeable loss in diameter. Also consider replacement after extended cycles if grinding performance declines.
