Cell Lab MCMB Synthetic Graphite Powder [500 g, D50 = 9–14 µm, > 99.9 %]

Spherical mesocarbon microbead graphite for high-energy lithium-ion battery anodes

The Cell Lab MCMB (Mesocarbon Microbead) Synthetic Graphite is a premium spherical anode material engineered for next-generation lithium-ion batteries.
Manufactured from refined petroleum pitch, it combines exceptional sphericity, high purity, and controlled particle size, enabling superior tap density, low irreversible capacity loss, and excellent cycle stability.

With its carbon purity > 99.9 % and D50 = 9–14 µm, Cell Lab MCMB offers high conductivity, stable SEI formation, and ultra-low metallic contamination, making it an ideal choice for EV batteries, energy storage systems, and battery R&D laboratories.

Key Features

  • High Specific Capacity and Efficiency – Delivers up to 327 mAh/g with > 94 % first-cycle efficiency, ensuring high energy output.

  • Superior Cycle Stability – Supports > 2000 charge–discharge cycles with minimal capacity fade.

  • Spherical Morphology – Excellent sphericity promotes high tap density (~1.25 g/cm³) and uniform electrode coating.

  • Low Surface Area – BET 1.0–1.5 m²/g minimises SEI layer growth and irreversible lithium loss.

  • Ultra-Low Metallic Impurities – Fe content < 30 ppm ensures high conductivity and long-term reliability.

FAQ

Q1: What is the main advantage of MCMB graphite over natural graphite anodes?
A: MCMB offers superior sphericity, higher packing density, and lower impurity levels, resulting in better rate performance and longer cycle life.

Q2: Is this material compatible with standard cathode chemistries like NMC and LFP?
A: Yes. It pairs well with NMC, LFP, and LMO cathodes across a wide voltage range.

Q3: Can MCMB be used in water-based binder systems?
A: Yes, it is compatible with both PVDF/NMP and CMC/SBR systems for slurry preparation.

Q4: What storage conditions are recommended?
A: Store in a dry, inert atmosphere (Ar or N₂) to prevent moisture absorption and surface oxidation.

Q5: How does its cycle performance compare to graphitised hard carbon?
A: MCMB provides higher first-cycle efficiency and lower potential hysteresis, suitable for high-efficiency cells.
