Precision grinding jar for contamination-free planetary milling
The Cell Lab™ High-Purity Natural Agate Milling Jar is meticulously hand-crafted from Brazilian natural agate containing ≥ 99.91 % SiO₂, offering exceptional hardness, chemical resistance, and purity. Designed for planetary ball mills and other high-energy milling systems, these jars ensure minimal sample contamination and uniform particle size reduction for demanding laboratory and industrial research applications.
Each jar includes a precision-fit lid and rubber sealing gasket for airtight grinding, ensuring clean and reproducible milling results under both wet and dry conditions.
• Ultra-High-Purity Natural Agate (≥ 99.91 % SiO₂)
Manufactured from premium Brazilian agate with near-zero metallic impurities, ensuring analytical-grade sample integrity.
• Superior Mechanical Strength and Density
High hardness (Mohs 6.5 – 7) and specific gravity 2.65 g/cm³ enable consistent grinding efficiency and long service life.
• Excellent Chemical Inertness
Highly resistant to most acids and solvents (except HF), making it ideal for use in chemical, geological, and materials research.
• Mirror-Polished Non-Porous Surface
Smooth internal finish prevents sample adhesion, simplifies cleaning, and reduces cross-contamination risk.
• Crack-Resistant Cylindrical Design
Withstands high-speed impacts and centrifugal forces in planetary ball mills.
• Wide Compatibility
Fits most planetary and laboratory-scale ball mill systems, ensuring easy replacement and flexible experimental setup.

To achieve the best grinding performance, always match the jar and milling media materials.
For example, a 250 ml agate jar pairs best with approximately 250 g of mixed-size agate balls.
Optimisation may vary with sample hardness, brittleness, and grinding duration.
Q1: Why choose agate jars over zirconia or stainless-steel?
A1: Agate provides superior chemical purity and ultra-low contamination, critical for trace-element and high-precision research.
Q2: Can agate jars handle both wet and dry milling?
A2: Yes — they are suitable for both conditions, maintaining stable performance and easy cleaning.
Q3: How should I clean the jar after use?
A3: Rinse with ethanol or deionised water using a soft brush or lint-free cloth; avoid metal tools.
Q4: Are the jars compatible with high-energy planetary mills?
A4: Yes — each jar is precision balanced and impact-resistant, making it safe for high-speed planetary operation.
Q5: What material should I choose for matching grinding balls?
A5: Use agate milling balls of the same purity for optimal results and lowest abrasion.
