For fine grinding, homogenisation, and contamination-free sample preparation
The Cell Lab™ Agate Mortar and Pestle Set is meticulously hand-carved from natural agate stone containing over 99.9% SiO₂, ensuring unmatched hardness, density, and chemical inertness. Designed for high-purity grinding and homogenisation, it guarantees maximum cleanliness and reproducibility for laboratory and analytical applications.
Ideal for crushing and mixing solid materials into fine powders, it provides excellent surface smoothness and minimal contamination, making it indispensable in analytical chemistry, materials science, and life-science research.
• Ultra-High Purity Natural Agate (≥99.9% SiO₂)
Ensures complete chemical inertness, no ion leaching, and zero interference in sensitive analytical procedures such as spectroscopy or chromatography.
• Dense and Durable Structure
High hardness (Mohs ~7) and fine-grained density allow effective grinding without particle shedding or micro-abrasion.
• Polished Non-Porous Interior
Smooth surface prevents sample residue build-up, enabling fast cleaning and reducing the risk of cross-contamination between tests.
• Ideal for Analytical and Material Science Laboratories
Perfect for fine powder preparation in XRF, IR, or elemental analysis, as well as battery research, geochemical sampling, and pharmaceutical testing.
• Ergonomic Design with Balanced Weight
Provides stable manual operation with optimal friction control, supporting repeatable grinding results across different sample types.

Q1: Why use agate mortars instead of porcelain or alumina?
A1: Agate provides superior chemical resistance and minimal contamination, crucial for trace-element or purity-sensitive testing.
Q2: Can these be used for both wet and dry grinding?
A2: Yes. The agate surface is smooth, impermeable, and ideal for both wet homogenisation and dry powder milling.
Q3: How should I clean the mortar and pestle after use?
A3: Use ethanol or deionised water with a lint-free cloth. Avoid metal brushes to preserve the polished surface.
Q4: What materials are unsuitable for agate grinding?
A4: Avoid extremely hard materials (e.g. corundum or carbides) that could scratch or abrade the agate surface.
