High-strength alloy steel die for precise XRF pellet preparation
The Cell Lab 40 mm XRF Pellet Pressing Die Set is engineered for preparing high-quality pressed powder pellets for X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF). Constructed from Cr12MoV alloy tool steel, hardened to HRC60–62, this die delivers excellent durability and precision.
Pressed pellets provide a significantly higher signal-to-noise ratio compared to loose powders, improving the accuracy of detecting even the lightest elements. For optimum performance, up to 20% spectroscopic-grade boric acid is commonly mixed with the powder sample to enhance pellet cohesion and surface finish.
This die is widely used across geology, cement, metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, and environmental laboratories where reliable XRF sample preparation is critical.
XRF-optimised performance — Produces 40 mm pellets with smooth, dense surfaces for accurate readings.
Improved sensitivity — Enhances signal-to-noise ratio, especially for light elements in XRF analysis.
Durable alloy steel — Made from Cr12MoV (AISI D2 equivalent), hardened to HRC60–62 for long service life.
High load capacity — Supports pressing forces up to 100 metric tons.
Binder compatible — Works seamlessly with spectroscopic-grade boric acid for stable pellet formation.

XRF spectroscopy — Reliable pressed pellets for elemental analysis.
Geology & mining — Preparation of rock, ore, and soil samples.
Cement & construction — Raw material and quality control analysis.
Metallurgy — Alloy and metallic powder testing.
Environmental science — Soil, ash, and waste monitoring for contaminants.
Q1: Why press pellets for XRF instead of using loose powders?
Pressed pellets provide higher density, smoother surfaces, and lower background noise, which improves analytical accuracy.
Q2: What binder is recommended for pellet pressing?
Spectroscopic-grade boric acid is recommended, typically added at ~20% of the total weight.
Q3: What is the maximum pressing capacity of this die?
It is designed to withstand loads up to 100 metric tons, ensuring crack-free pellet preparation.
Q4: Can the die be customised?
Yes, Cell Lab offers custom diameters, depths, and shapes on request.
Q5: Is this die consumable?
Yes. Warranty covers only manufacturing defects. Normal wear, surface rust, or damage from misuse are excluded.
