High-Purity Chromium Oxide for Optical, Pigment, and Thin-Film Applications
Cell Lab 3N (99.9%) Chromium Oxide (Cr₂O₃) is a green crystalline compound with a corundum-type structure, where chromium occupies two-thirds of the octahedral sites in a hexagonal close-packed array of oxide anions. Known for its hardness (Mohs 8–8.5), chemical stability, and antiferromagnetic properties (Néel temperature 307 K), Cr₂O₃ serves as an essential material in pigments, polishing compounds, and thin-film coatings.
Its high melting point (2,266 °C) and excellent thermal and chemical resistance make it a versatile material for vacuum evaporation processes, optical coatings, and protective ceramic layers.
High Purity (99.9%) – Ensures precise performance in evaporation and coating processes.
Exceptional Hardness – Mohs 8–8.5; ideal for abrasion-resistant and durable coatings.
Thermal & Chemical Stability – Withstands extreme temperatures and reactive environments.
Vivid Green Pigment – Used extensively in high-performance pigments and ceramics.
Vacuum Evaporation Ready – Suitable for deposition via tungsten or molybdenum boats.

Q1: Is Cr₂O₃ suitable for high-temperature vacuum deposition?
Yes. Its high melting point and low volatility make it well-suited for vacuum or e-beam evaporation.
Q2: What are the common crucible materials for deposition?
Tungsten (W) and Molybdenum (Mo) boats or baskets are recommended for stable heating.
Q3: Can Chromium Oxide be used in optical coatings?
Yes. It provides durable, heat-resistant green coatings with optical absorption properties.
Q4: Is custom packaging available for research or industrial quantities?
Yes. Cell Lab offers custom sizes and quantities upon request.
