Sealed Stainless Steel Jars for Vacuum/Inert-Gas Planetary Milling
The Cell Lab 304-Grade Stainless Steel Vacuum Planetary Milling Jars are engineered for milling operations under vacuum or inert gas, ideal for reducing oxidation and contamination. Built from Grade 304 stainless steel (austenitic, 18% Cr / 8% Ni), these jars combine moderate hardness, good corrosion resistance, and inert-environment capability. Volumes from 50 ml to 1500 ml cater to lab-scale planetary mills used in metallurgy, electronics, battery research, ceramics, and more.
Vacuum / Inert-Gas Compatible – Strong sealing prevents interaction with oxygen or moisture.
304 Stainless Steel Construction – Corrosion and oxidation resistant, acceptable hardness (≈ 187 HB).
Multiple Size Options – 50 ml, 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, 1000 ml, 1500 ml models for flexibility in batch size.
Supplied Complete – Each jar includes lid + silicon vacuum sealing gasket; milling media sold separately.
Suitable for Hard, Brittle Samples – Medium-hard / brittle materials like metal powders, minerals.

Widely used in settings requiring high purity and inert environment including:
Battery materials & electrode development – avoids oxidation during milling
Metallurgy & metal powder labs – preparing metal powders under controlled atmosphere
Ceramics, electronics & precision optics – sample prep without metal contamination
Chemical engineering & coatings – where stainless steel is acceptable and vacuum sealing required
Q1: How do I choose the stainless steel jar size?
A: Match your planetary ball mill holder size. E.g., a 1 L vacuum jar requires at least a 2 L jar holder for proper fit. Overloading can reduce sealing effectiveness.
Q2: Is Grade 304 stainless steel good for vacuum applications?
A: Yes. 304 SS has good corrosion resistance and can be sealed for vacuum/inert gas use. For more severe chemical exposure, 316 SS is available upon request.
Q3: What materials are suitable sample types for these jars?
A: Best for medium-hard or brittle materials where metal contamination is acceptable, but oxidation needs control—metal powders, minerals, catalysts, ceramics.
