Superior chemical inertness and thermal stability up to 2200 °C
Cell Lab high-purity Magnesium Oxide (MgO) crucibles are engineered for ultra-high-temperature processes reaching 4000 °F (≈ 2200 °C). MgO provides superior chemical inertness and resistance to molten metals, slags and aggressive compounds, outperforming conventional Al₂O₃ crucibles.
These crucibles are ideal for lithium solid-state electrolyte synthesis, superconductor fabrication and nickel-based super-alloy processing. MgO’s unique stability with lithium prevents unwanted reactions, maintaining lithium vapour pressure and minimising material loss during sintering.
Ultra-high temperature resistance (≤ 2200 °C): Performs reliably under extreme furnace and casting conditions.
Outstanding chemical inertness: Non-reactive with lithium, metals, slags and superconductor compounds.
High-purity composition: > 99.7 wt % MgO with trace impurities below 0.01 %.
Enhanced dimensional stability: Maintains structural integrity through repeated heating and cooling cycles.
Customisable design: Covers and bespoke dimensions available for specialised laboratory setups.

Q1: Why choose MgO over Al₂O₃ for high-temperature applications?
A1: MgO offers superior chemical inertness and withstands 2200 °C, while Al₂O₃ typically fails around 1600 °C. It is especially advantageous for lithium systems.
Q2: Is MgO reactive with lithium during solid-state synthesis?
A2: No — MgO remains stable with lithium and prevents lithium loss, unlike Al₂O₃ which forms undesired compounds.
Q3: Do I need to pre-heat the crucible before use?
A3: Yes. Dry the crucible at 105 °C for 2 hours to remove moisture before initial use.
Q4: Can covers be purchased with the crucible?
A4: Yes. Matching MgO or Al₂O₃ covers are available separately to reduce oxygen exposure during calcination.
Q5: Is this crucible reusable?
A5: Yes, but like all ceramic consumables, performance gradually decreases under thermal shock or aggressive chemistries.
